Apple is gearing up for further growth in India following the success of its flagship stores. As long queues formed outside the Apple store in Mumbai ahead of the iPhone 16 sale, the company announced plans for more retail locations and local manufacturing of its latest products.
New Apple Stores Coming Soon
Apple is set to open new retail stores in Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. This expansion follows the positive response to the company’s first two stores, opened in April 2023 in Mumbai’s BKC and Delhi’s Saket. According to Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail, the brand is excited to build new teams in India and provide more opportunities for customers to explore their products. While the specific locations and dates for these new stores haven’t been confirmed, they will likely be situated in prime spots to recreate the feel of a town square, a key feature of Apple’s retail experience.
iPhone 16 Production in India
Apple also revealed that it is now manufacturing the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, in India. This move is part of a broader push to produce more devices locally, both for the Indian market and for select export markets. The iPhone SE was the first Apple product to be manufactured in India back in 2017, and since then, the company has expanded its manufacturing partnerships, primarily in southern India.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with its goal to be carbon neutral by 2030, Apple has partnered with CleanMax to boost clean energy capacity in India. This initiative will help power Apple’s offices, existing retail stores, and corporate operations in the country using renewable energy. With a growing workforce of 3,000 employees and a network of suppliers employing thousands more, Apple is cementing its presence in India, both as a retail and manufacturing hub.
With new stores on the horizon and local production of the latest iPhones, Apple’s commitment to the Indian market is stronger than ever.
