India's Semiconductor Goals: ISRC Proposal Aims for Self-Sufficiency

India is actively pursuing the establishment of a Semiconductor Research Centre to bolster its ambitions in the semiconductor industry. However, concerns about India’s preparedness to address challenges in the semiconductor sector have been raised.

Investments in OSAT and the Shadow of China

While India is attracting investments in Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT), it faces stiff competition from China, a major player in the semiconductor arena. The global semiconductor landscape is evolving, and India’s integration ecosystem is seen as lacking compared to other nations.

India’s Absence in Key Semiconductor Groupings

A notable observation is India’s absence from several emerging semiconductor groupings in Asia. This non-participation raises questions about India’s positioning in the evolving semiconductor landscape.

Call for Action: India Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC)

In response to these challenges, the Semiconductor R&D Committee of India proposed the creation of the India Semiconductor Research Centre (ISRC) in October. The endorsement of this initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing India’s capabilities and competitiveness in the semiconductor domain.

As India navigates its way through the complex semiconductor industry, the establishment of the ISRC becomes a pivotal move to secure a self-sufficient future in this critical technological space.
