Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to US President Joe Biden as he arrived at the Bharat Mandapam venue in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, to participate in the G20 summit meeting. The leaders exchanged greetings and shared a friendly handshake, setting the tone for their discussions.

Significance of the Konark Wheel

Visuals from the Bharat Mandapam depicted PM Modi explaining the significance of the Konark wheel, a prominent backdrop for the photo-op. The Konark Wheel, dating back to the 13th century during King Narasimhadeva-I’s reign, features 24 spokes and is incorporated into India’s national flag. It symbolizes India’s ancient wisdom, advanced civilization, and architectural excellence.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

President Biden’s visit to India followed his arrival the previous day, where he was received at the airport by Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, Gen VK Singh. The visit included bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Biden at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Enhancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership

During their meeting, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for President Biden’s vision and commitment to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. This partnership is rooted in shared democratic values, strategic convergences, and robust people-to-people ties, as highlighted in a Ministry of External Affairs press release.

Progress from the Historic State Visit

The leaders commended the progress made in implementing the outcomes of PM Modi’s historic state visit to the US in June 2023, which included the India-US Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET). They also welcomed the sustained momentum in various areas of cooperation, including defence, trade, investment, education, health, research, innovation, culture, and people-to-people ties.

Cooperation in Space and Global Issues

President Biden congratulated India on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the lunar south pole and emphasized the deepening cooperation between the two countries in the field of space. The leaders also exchanged views on several regional and global issues, underlining the beneficial impact of the India-US partnership, not only for their citizens but also for global well-being.

Gratitude and Support

Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to President Biden for the consistent support provided by the United States during India’s G20 Presidency. The meeting showcased the continued commitment to enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

Recap of Prime Minister Modi’s US Visit

In June, Prime Minister Modi embarked on a state visit to the US, which included a special yoga event at the UN Headquarters, bilateral talks with President Biden at the White House, and an address to the UN Congress.

The 18th G20 Summit, where global leaders gather to address critical global issues, will conclude tomorrow, with discussions centered around topics of international significance.
