In a significant development, Bengaluru International Airport Ltd has partnered with Industry.
AI, a member of the Nvidia Metropolis vision AI partner ecosystem, to integrate its cutting-edge vision artificial intelligence (AI) platform into the recently constructed Terminal 2 (T2). This move aims to revolutionize the passenger experience within the airport.
Innovative AI Solution to Tackle Terminal Congestion
Industry.AI’s vision AI platform, built on Nvidia Metropolis development suite, provides a ready-to-use platform for creating data analytics solutions using video feeds. Industry.AI, a subsidiary of Bharat Light & Power, a private green energy firm, is set to leverage this technology to bring about transformative changes at the airport.
Enhancing Passenger Flow and Security
The Bengaluru International Airport is poised to harness the power of video analytics and AI to monitor queues at various checkpoints throughout the terminal. Additionally, the AI platform will be instrumental in identifying and resolving congestion issues, as well as tracking abandoned baggage. It will also alert security personnel in case of suspicious activities. This system will operate on the cloud and will seamlessly connect nearly 500 live camera feeds across the terminal, enabling real-time decision-making.
Positive Outlook for Passenger Flow
Tejpreet Chopra, the Chief Executive of Industry.AI, has emphasized that the integration of the vision AI platform will significantly expedite passenger flow, especially during peak operational hours. Moreover, Industry.AI has ambitious plans to extend its services to other terminals within the Bengaluru International Airport, thereby enhancing the overall airport experience.
Concerns Over Data Privacy
While the deployment of the vision AI platform promises enhanced efficiency and security, experts have raised valid concerns regarding data privacy. Abhishek Malhotra, Managing Partner at Delhi-based TMT Law Practice, has stressed the need for addressing unanswered questions concerning the handling of personal data by such advanced tools. Additionally, the importance of a robust consent mechanism in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act is underscored as Bengaluru Airport embraces this groundbreaking technology.
Integration with DigiYatra for Streamlined Travel
Notably, Bengaluru’s new international terminal will also incorporate the government-backed facial recognition travel approval platform known as DigiYatra, further streamlining the travel experience for passengers.
In conclusion, the collaboration between Bengaluru International Airport and Industry.AI signifies a significant leap forward in leveraging AI technology to enhance passenger convenience and safety. However, it also underscores the importance of vigilant data privacy practices in an era of rapidly advancing technology.
