n a significant move towards sustainability, the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) in Dubai has launched the “Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp” to recognise hotels that prioritise eco-friendly practises. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability and aims to bolster Dubai’s reputation as a leading global destination committed to sustainable tourism.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism Practises:

The “Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp” will acknowledge hotels that meet DET’s 19 “Sustainability Requirements,” focusing on energy and water efficiency, waste management, and staff education initiatives. By encouraging these eco-conscious practises, the initiative aims to foster a greener and more responsible hospitality sector in the city.

Three-Tier Recognition System:

The accreditation process will be overseen by an expert committee to ensure adherence to global best practices and maintain the integrity of the stamp. The three-tier recognition system of Gold, Silver, and Bronze will showcase the level of sustainability achieved by each hotel, providing travellers with a clear understanding of their environmental commitments.

Nominations Open:

Starting from August 3 until August 31, hotels in Dubai can be nominated to receive the Sustainable Tourism Stamp. This initiative aims to inspire other establishments in the hospitality sector to adopt eco-friendly practises, contributing to the overall well-being of the city and the planet.

Dubai’s Vision for a Sustainable Future

Yousuf Lootah, Acting CEO of Corporate Strategy and Performance Sector at DET, emphasised that this initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to become a leading sustainable tourism destination, attracting global travellers seeking eco-conscious experiences.

Dubai’s Ongoing Sustainability Efforts:

Dubai’s commitment to sustainability is evident through previous initiatives like the Carbon Calculator and Dubai Can, which promote eco-friendly practises and reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles. With the upcoming COP28, the UN Climate Change Conference, Dubai demonstrates its foresight and dedication to fostering an economically prosperous and environmentally responsible tourism industry.
