In a recent video clip, Ritesh Agarwal, the founder and CEO of OYO, shared invaluable advice for aspiring entrepreneurs who fear rejection. Speaking in Hindi, Agarwal highlighted two crucial points that can empower and motivate budding entrepreneurs on their path to success.
Agarwal reassured entrepreneurs that experiencing rejection is a normal part of the entrepreneurial journey. He emphasised that all entrepreneurs face rejection at some point in their pursuit of success. Rather than being disheartened by rejection, Agarwal suggested that entrepreneurs should perceive it as a temporary setback rather than a reflection of their abilities or worth.
Taking to Twitter, Agarwal shared the video and tweeted, “For aspiring entrepreneurs out there who are scared of rejection – take pride in whatever you build. Don’t fret about being rejected. All entrepreneurs get rejected at a point in their journey. The ones who take it in their stride succeed in the long run.”
Agarwal’s first piece of advice, as conveyed in the video, is to not be ashamed of one’s work. He emphasised that regardless of the nature of the work, every profession is respectable, and entrepreneurs should be proud of their endeavours.
“If you do these two things, as I have learned in my early days, that you must respect and take pride in your work, there’s nothing to be ashamed of if you are getting rejected,” concluded Agarwal in the short clip.
At the age of 17, Agarwal founded OYO Rooms in 2013, propelling it to remarkable success. He was recognized in Forbes’ 30 under 30 list in 2016 and has since become one of the world’s youngest self-made billionaires.
Agarwal’s words of wisdom serve as a reminder to aspiring entrepreneurs that rejection is not a deterrent but rather an opportunity for growth. By embracing pride in their work and viewing rejection as a stepping stone, entrepreneurs can persevere on their journey to long-term success.
