Transforming Rail Travel: Railways Float Tender for 200 Sleeper Trains

The Indian Railways is set to float a tender for the procurement of 200 sets of sleeper version trains as part of the Vande Bharat 3.0 project. This move comes as a significant step towards enhancing passenger comfort and expanding the high-speed train fleet in the country.

The Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, was introduced in 2019 as India’s first indigenously-built semi-high-speed train. Its success led to the launch of the Vande Bharat 2.0 project, which involved producing additional train sets. Now, the upcoming Vande Bharat 3.0 project aims to introduce sleeper version trains to cater to the increasing demand for overnight travel options, particularly for long-distance journeys.

The new train sets will be equipped with sleeper berths, providing passengers with a comfortable sleeping arrangement throughout their journey. The focus will be on passenger comfort and safety, with modern amenities such as comfortable berths, modern toilets, ample storage space, and dedicated dining areas. Advanced safety features, including fire-resistant materials, emergency alarms, and surveillance systems, will also be incorporated.

By floating a tender for 200 sets of sleeper version trains, the Indian Railways aims to enhance its infrastructure and meet the growing demands of passengers. The procurement of these train sets will not only strengthen the fleet but also create job opportunities in manufacturing and related sectors.

The project aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, as it encourages domestic manufacturing and reduces dependency on imports. Manufacturing the Vande Bharat trains within the country will contribute to economic growth and promote technological advancements in the rail sector.

The tender for the 200 sets of sleeper version trains marks a significant step towards transforming rail travel in India. The expansion of the high-speed train fleet and the introduction of sleeper berths will provide a more comfortable and efficient journey experience for passengers. Moreover, it will boost the country’s rail infrastructure and contribute to economic development.
