The company has established several partnerships with Indian companies, including Hero MotoCorp and more recently, Zypp Electric in November of last year. The brand is registered in India.
With two models—the Gogoro 2 and Gogoro 2 Plus—the business, which initially entered the Indian market in the B2B category, is now making a move into the passenger two-wheeler industry.
Homologated Gogoro 2, 2 Plus
According to type clearance documentation issued by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune, Gogoro has homologated these models in India.
According to the documents, the scooters will be imported as completely built units from Taiwan rather than being made locally. Gogoro’s Indian website mentions two scooters: the 2 Series and the Supersport, indicating that the company will first release the former’s regular and plus versions and the latter at a later time. Gogoro 2, 2 Plus specs Dimensionally, both variations are the same, measuring 1,800mm in length, 670mm in width, 1,110mm in height, and 1,295mm for the wheelbase. Gross vehicle weight for the scooters is 273 kg. The specified maximum range is the main distinction between the two models. On a single charge, the 2 and 2 Plus have peak ranges of 87 km and 94 km, respectively.
On the company website, it’s interesting to note that the 2 Series has a range of up to 170 kilometres. Also, the 2 Plus will be driven by a slightly lesser motor that has a peak output of 6.4kW, compared to the 7.2kW electric motor that powers the Gogoro 2. The electrical energy usage of Gogoro 2 is 41 Wh/km, whereas it is 44 Wh/km for the Plus version. According to the type approval paperwork, both models are approved to reach a peak speed of 87 kmph, making them comparable to a scooter with a 125cc IC engine. However, the company hasn’t yet disclosed the details of the variants’ batteries.
