As part of its goal to become India’s top airport operator, Adani Airports, a division of billionaire Gautam Adani’s conglomerate, would submit bids for other airports across the country, according to Chief Executive Arun Bansal . Adani Airports won the bids to run six airports in the government’s most recent round of airport privatisation. Over the following few years, India is anticipated to privatise approximately a dozen more airports, and Bansal announced that the group would take part in the auction.

Adani Group’s 2,866-acre airport in Navi Mumbai, which would serve 90 million people by 2036, is one of India’s major airport initiatives. Zurich Airport International AG is building a new terminal with a 70 million passenger capacity for the capital city of New Delhi. There will be new Greenfield airports built in the states of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Domestic and international travellers increased by 92% and 133%, respectively, at each of the seven Adani airports. Corresponding to this, there has been an increase in domestic and international flight volume of 58% and 61%, respectively. According to Bansal, Adani Airports is optimistic about the country’s aviation business and wants to “do additional airports” and added that the first phase, Navi Mumbai airport, will start operations by December 2024.

The goal of the world’s fastest-growing aviation sector is to increase the number of airports from the present 148 to 220 by 2025. To that end, private builders will contribute roughly $9 billion, with the balance coming from the government-run Airports Authority of India. It involves new terminal construction, Greenfield projects, and refurbishment of existing buildings, including old military airfields from colonial eras. The Center plans to build new Greenfield airports in the following five years in Navi Mumbai in Mumbai, Maharashtra; Vijayapura, Hassan, and Shivamogga in Karnataka; Noida (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh; Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat; and Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) infrastructure programme, the Center wants to build 100 airports by 2024.
