Indian Oil Corporation Limited In an effort to reduce and recycle e-waste, BPCL, a Maharatna and Fortune Global 500 company, today announced the introduction of a new project called Sound Management of Waste Disposal (SMWD). A directive on managing e-waste has been distributed by the corporation to all employees to ensure efficient management, including prompt disposal in accordance with legal requirements. By 2025, BPCL hopes to achieve Zero waste to landfill accreditation at all of its active refineries and marketing facilities.
Due to its inherent danger, improper garbage disposal is one of the most pressing problems in the world today, as it can negatively impact the environment, animals, aquatic life, people, and other species.
The trash produced by BPCL’s refineries and other operations can impact the environment and the surrounding population, and this is something the company is aware of. As a result, they have committed to lowering the amount of garbage their operations produce, using efficient waste treatment processes, and managing its disposal through approved vendors. Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) such as mobile phones, laptops, servers, televisions, washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners are increasingly used and dependent upon, resulting in significant amounts of e-Waste. Electrical and electronic equipment can include components made of dangerous or toxic materials as well as valuable materials. Environmental damage and health problems can result from improper EEE disposal.
E-waste and non-hazardous debris are diverted by BPCL for recycling and refurbishment by registered recyclers because the company fully believes in releasing the circularity of the resources. 2.57 tonnes of e-waste were properly disposed of during FY 2021–22 in accordance with pollution control board regulations. The Research & Development (R&D) division of BPCL is essential to developing and innovating new products, technologies, and future capacities for sustained corporate success. The R&D department is working on a number of innovative projects in the fields of energy-efficient refinery operations, waste management, biofuels, green hydrogen, and CO2 mitigation.
