Ather Energy plans to install more EV fast chargers

Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based manufacturer of electric scooters, plans to install more than 2,500 grids by the end of this year. Ather Energy has been one of the few brands focusing on expanding the charging infrastructure in India since its inception. It was founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain.

Until now, the company has installed over 1,000 fast charging stations in 80 cities across the country. To facilitate a hassle-free transition to EVs, electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy is mulling over installing over 2,500 charging stations by the end of 2023. As part of building a fast-charging network, Ather had released its IP for charging connectors to all OEMs, thus paving the way for an interoperable two-wheeler fast-charging platform.

The Bengaluru-based company claims that Ather Grid (charging station) is today the biggest fast-charging network for two-wheeler EVs in the country, with 60 percent of current installations in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, it has also put them up at strategic locations to enable intercity rides like Pune-Mumbai, Siliguri-Darjeeling, Coimbatore-Ooty, and more.  Ather recently introduced the Ather Neighbourhood Charging initiative, which provides access to charging stations in public areas, including corporate buildings, tech parks, and residential complexes.

“A robust charging infrastructure is one of the major drivers in accelerating faster adoption of electric vehicles. As a brand focused on building a vibrant EV ecosystem, we have made strong investments in building what is already India’s largest public fast-charging network,” said Ather Energy Chief Business Officer Ravneet Phokela

Backed by Hero MotoCorp, Ather witnessed its best-ever monthly sales in January with deliveries of 12,419 units.
