At the Auto Expo 2023, commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland unveiled six new “alternative energy” items. The vehicles on display were “green,” running on hydrogen and electric power.
A battery electric car, a fuel cell vehicle, a hydrogen ICE vehicle, a liquefied natural gas vehicle, an intercity CNG bus, and a compact passenger bus are among the new items. The Lithium-ion battery that powers the battery electric car is charged externally. According to the manufacturer, this vehicle has a lightweight construction that gives it a payload advantage.
Hydrogen fuels the fuel cell electric vehicle. The fuel cell uses hydrogen and oxygen from the air to create electricity, which powers the vehicle’s motor and power electronics.Hydrogen is also used to power the HICEV. For vehicle and road safety, it has an Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS).
The LNG car is fuelled by both LNG and CNG. In heavy-duty trucks, LNG is often preferred to suit longer-range needs. A majority of the sub-aggregates from the company’s current diesel cars are included into FCEV, H2-ICE, and LNG, which are constructed on the AVTR Modular Vehicle Platform.
The 13.5 m intercity CNG bus will have a 1,500 Litre (255 kg) fuel capacity and a 1000 km driving range. It will have a 36-berth passenger capacity and 11 cubic metres of cargo space.
