Facebook parent Meta may remove news from its platform if US Congress passes media bill

Lawmakers are considering enforcing the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act
The bill aims to help the struggling news industry
It will help news organisations negotiate with firms like Google and Facebook
However, Meta says the bill does not acknowledge the benefits news organisations receive from the platform
Local news organisations are of opinion that they cannot afford to tolerate Big Tech’s abuse
A similar Australian law caused a brief shutdown of Facebook news feeds in the country
Tech firms such as Meta and Alphabet Inc have signed more than 30 deals with media outlets since the law came into force
