Tech giant Google has started the ‘Google for Startups Accelerator: Circular Economy’ for startups and non-profit organisations in Asia-Pacific and North America. The first cohort will accommodate 10-15 startups and non-profit organisations.
Startups that excel in areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and geospatial technologies can apply for the programme. They should be able to solve circularity challenges that involve reuse, refill, recycle, composting, fashion, food, safe and circular materials. Currently, humanity consumes far more than the earth can naturally replenish. The amount of waste created is also on the rise. The concept of Circular Economy discusses the idea of recycling, sharing, repairing, reusing and leasing resources as long as possible. Thus, the life cycle of products can be extended.
Google’s three-month virtual programme will offer mentoring and technical support from Google engineers and external experts. The programme will have both one-to-one and one-to-many learning lessons. The application process will be open till November 14.
Google now focuses on the Asia-Pacific region as it is the world’s most vulnerable region to climate change’s impact. Moreover, Asia is expected to drive 40 per cent of the world’s consumption by 2040. In India, Google started an accelerator programme for women founders and the startup School this year.
