Tesla has got the approval for three more models from India’s vehicle testing agencies. This has cleared the decks for Tesla’s launch in the country.
Homologation certificate
Tesla has got a homologation certificate for a total of seven models. Homologation certifies if a particular vehicle is roadworthy after meeting all the specified criteria. Tesla has been reportedly lobbying hard for lowered import duty with the Centre.
Local manufacturing
The Modi government has been pushing for local manufacturing of electric vehicles to make the country a hub of EV production. Tata motors is gearing up for electric vehicles production in India. Tata will be a major rival for Tesla in this segment. Since the start of the year, Tesla has been strengthening its manpower in India.
