In India, Japan’s Aiwa was among the best-known brands for car audio systems.

It had a reputation in India along with Sony and Panasonic.

But around 2010, it disappeared from the Indian market.

Now, Aiwa, the first-ever tape recorder maker, is looking to resurrect its legacy charm in India.

Aiwa’s retreat from the Indian market had partly to do with serial ownership changes.

Towada Audio owns its rights in Japan and elsewhere.

It has been manufacturing Aiwa-branded products since 2017.

Products are made in Vietnam, Taiwan and China while the design is done in Japan.

Ajay Mehta, Aiwa India’s MD is looking to build on its reputation of ‘premium sound at affordable prices’

The new product categories include headphones, true wireless earphones, soundbars, portable speakers and more.

Headquartered in Delhi, Aiwa India is in the process of rolling out six major branch offices in key cities.

Aiwa is currently selling products online on Amazon, and through 300 stores across Reliance and Croma.
