Reliance Jio is exploring satellite broadband services to extend high-speed internet connectivity to every Indian home. The company aims to make digital services accessible and affordable, including in remote areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is difficult to deploy.

Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani said the company is evaluating the development of an indigenous low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation for India. It is also building ground infrastructure and exploring partnerships with global satellite operators to accelerate service availability.
The proposed satellite network could complement Jio’s existing mobile and broadband services by providing connectivity in underserved regions. Satellite broadband is expected to play an important role in connecting locations where laying fibre-optic cables or maintaining terrestrial networks is challenging.
Jio is also looking to strengthen India’s independent satellite connectivity capabilities while expanding its digital services. However, the company has not announced a commercial launch date or pricing for its proposed satellite broadband services. The rollout will depend on regulatory approvals, technological readiness and infrastructure development.
