Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is exploring a home luggage pickup service aimed at making air travel easier for passengers carrying multiple or heavy bags. The airport operator has permitted an agency to conduct a trial and is assessing the feasibility of a wider rollout.
Under the proposed first phase, an agency will collect luggage directly from passengers’ homes and move it to a warehouse before transporting it to a designated facility outside the airport terminal. The movement of the bags will be digitally tracked throughout the process. Since security rules do not allow baggage to enter the terminal without the passenger, travellers will have to collect their luggage from the designated facility and take it into the terminal themselves.

The service is being considered for passengers travelling with several bags, families and senior citizens. CIAL is examining a potential service area extending up to around 200 kilometres from the airport. The final coverage will depend on the outcome of the feasibility assessment.
Bookings are expected to be made online, with charges likely to be based on the weight of the luggage and the distance involved. The service could handle bags ranging from around 7 kg to 23 kg. It may also be available to arriving passengers who want their luggage delivered to another destination after leaving the airport.
CIAL is considering the project in two phases. The first phase would operate independently of airlines, while a later phase could integrate the service with airport facilities such as meet-and-greet and baggage assistance. The launch date, pricing and final service area have not yet been finalised.
