Several changes affecting LPG consumers are set to take effect from October 1, 2026. The key change is mandatory Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) for domestic consumers who want to book LPG refills at the regulated price with applicable subsidy. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said consumers who have already completed authentication do not need to take any further action.
Consumers who have not completed the process can authenticate their LPG connection during cylinder delivery, by visiting their distributor’s showroom, or through the mobile app of their oil marketing company. Indane customers can use IndianOil ONE, Bharatgas customers can use HelloBPCL, and HP Gas customers can use the HP PAY app.
Those who do not wish to complete biometric authentication will still be able to receive LPG, but without the subsidy. They must register their choice through the OMC’s digital channels, including the website, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. Such consumers will be supplied LPG at the applicable market price in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to availability.
As of September 19, 2026, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had completed biometric authentication. The government said the measure is intended to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches eligible households and to help identify duplicate or ineligible connections.
The LPG sector is also seeing changes in refill booking and delivery practices, while monthly revisions to domestic and commercial LPG prices continue to depend on market conditions. Consumers using Indane, Bharatgas and HP Gas are advised to check their respective OMC channels for the latest booking and authentication requirements.
