The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the country on Sunday and met President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The visit was officially confirmed by the UAE’s state news agency WAM on Monday.
According to the UAE, the leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Netanyahu’s office said the meeting focused on strengthening ties and addressing regional challenges.
Three senior Israeli officials said the meeting lasted around six hours and focused on Iran. However, neither side released a detailed account of the discussions.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions following the Iran war and ongoing diplomatic and security challenges in the Middle East.
The UAE and Israel established diplomatic relations in 2020 under the US-brokered Abraham Accords. The latest meeting highlights continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
The visit also follows earlier conflicting reports about a previous meeting between the leaders in March, which the UAE had denied at the time.
