Kochi-based marine robotics company EyeROV attracted attention at the BRICS Summit 2026 by showcasing its indigenous underwater drone technology before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other global leaders.

EyeROV presented its military-grade underwater drone Trout at the Bharat Innovates Exposition, held as part of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The technology was showcased before leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Founded in 2016 by IIT alumni Johns T. Mathai, who serves as CEO, and Kannappa Palaniappan, who serves as CTO, EyeROV develops smart underwater drones and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). The company focuses on underwater robotics for defence applications, maritime security and the inspection of underwater infrastructure and structures.
The Trout underwater drone, developed specifically for defence requirements, was the key technology displayed by EyeROV at the exposition. The company’s underwater robotic systems are designed to support applications across the marine and defence sectors.
According to Johns T. Mathai, the showcase represents years of hard work and the confidence of EyeROV’s engineering team in developing advanced marine technology in India. The company’s indigenous underwater robotics capabilities highlight India’s growing expertise in the marine technology sector.
EyeROV represented India at the international exposition with support from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of External Affairs and the Bharat Innovates initiative. Thiruvananthapuram-based semiconductor startup Netrasemi also participated in the exhibition.
The participation of Kerala-based technology companies at the global event highlights the growing capabilities of India’s deep-tech sector. EyeROV’s presence at the BRICS Summit also marks an important milestone for Kerala’s startup ecosystem, showcasing the state’s marine robotics and advanced technology capabilities on an international platform.
