Airbus expects to deliver more than two aircraft a week to India on average over the next 10 years, highlighting the rapid expansion of the country’s aviation market.
The European aircraft manufacturer has a backlog of more than 1,200 aircraft for India. This translates to around 120 aircraft deliveries a year over the next decade, according to Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia.
The large order pipeline reflects growing demand from Indian airlines as passenger traffic and the country’s middle class continue to expand. Airbus has previously indicated that deliveries to Indian carriers could reach around 150 aircraft a year in the coming years.
India is emerging as one of Airbus’s most important aviation markets, with airlines expanding fleets to meet rising domestic and international travel demand.
The company is also strengthening its presence in India’s aerospace ecosystem, including maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities and sourcing from Indian suppliers.
The scale of Airbus’s India backlog underscores the country’s growing importance in the global commercial aviation industry.
