Odisha has received in-principle approval for a major ₹24,700 crore shipbuilding cluster, marking a significant push to strengthen the state’s maritime and manufacturing ecosystem.
The project, backed by the National Shipbuilding and Maritime Infrastructure Development framework, is expected to create a large-scale industrial hub focused on shipbuilding and related activities.
The proposed cluster could attract significant private investment while generating employment and supporting a wider network of ancillary industries, suppliers and service providers.
The development is also aligned with India’s efforts to expand domestic shipbuilding capacity, reduce dependence on overseas facilities and strengthen its position in the global maritime industry.
With its strategic coastline and growing port infrastructure, Odisha has the potential to emerge as an important centre for shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing.
The ₹24,700 crore project is expected to provide a major boost to industrial development in the state while contributing to India’s broader ambitions of building a competitive and self-reliant maritime sector.
