The Kerala government has received a proposal for the transfer of a 49% stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), according to information shared by the Centre in Parliament.
The proposed transaction could mark a significant development for Vizhinjam International Seaport, one of India’s most strategically important transshipment projects.

The port, developed by the Adani Group, is designed to strengthen India’s position in the global shipping and transshipment network, taking advantage of its proximity to major international shipping routes.
MSC is one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, and a potential stake transfer could deepen its strategic involvement in Vizhinjam’s operations and long-term development.
The proposal comes as Vizhinjam continues to expand its role as a major transshipment hub, with the port targeting greater cargo volumes and stronger connectivity with global shipping networks.
A larger participation by MSC could potentially bring additional global shipping expertise, cargo volumes and international connectivity to the Kerala port.
The development is also significant for Kerala’s maritime economy, as Vizhinjam is expected to support logistics, trade, investment, employment and related industries in the state.
The proposed stake transfer will be subject to the applicable approvals and regulatory processes before any transaction can be completed.
