Chief Minister VD Satheesan met with the US Ambassador to India seeking investments in sectors such as ports, tourism, and education. Strengthening cooperation between Kerala and the United States by focusing on higher education, tourism, culture, investment, and maritime development was the primary priority of the meeting.
The Chief Minister emphasized expanding joint research, academic exchanges, and innovation partnerships between universities and research institutions in Kerala and the United States. Additionally, discussions were held on further strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties.
The US Ambassador stated that this was his first visit to Kerala and that he was deeply impressed by the state’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and international tourism potential. He pointed out that more US tourists could be attracted to Kerala by leveraging its Ayurveda and wellness tourism. He also put forward the possibility of establishing cultural, educational, and economic partnerships between major cities in Kerala and the United States based on the concept of ‘Sister Cities’.
The Chief Minister spoke about the growing foreign investment potential in Kerala in sectors such as ports and logistics. Opportunities related to shipbuilding, ship repair, green bunkering, and allied industries connected to the Vizhinjam International Seaport and Kochi Port were discussed in the meeting.
The Ambassador informed that American companies are interested in collaborating with investment opportunities in Kerala. The Chief Minister proposed establishing an ‘Invest Desk’ in the US to further strengthen ties with the Malayali diaspora and business networks in the United States.
Both sides expressed interest in taking forward this mutually beneficial cooperation in the coming days.
