Adani Group has proposed investing ₹1 lakh crore (₹1 trillion) to establish a 1-gigawatt AI-focused data centre in Odisha, marking the largest AI data centre investment proposal by an Indian company. The conglomerate has sought around 250 acres of land from the state government for the ambitious project.
If approved, the facility would rank among India’s largest AI-ready data centre campuses, second only to Google’s planned 1 GW project in Andhra Pradesh. The Odisha government is evaluating the proposal, including land availability, power supply, water resources and connectivity, with Cuttack emerging as a potential location.
The proposed investment underscores India’s accelerating AI infrastructure race as companies ramp up hyperscale computing capacity to meet growing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services. The project could also position Odisha as a major digital infrastructure hub while creating significant employment and boosting the state’s technology ecosystem.
