Malabar Gold & Diamonds has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first jewellery importer under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), marking a significant moment for India’s jewellery export industry.

The company’s inaugural jewellery consignment to the United Kingdom under the trade agreement was recognised by Periasamy Kumaran, High Commissioner of India to the UK, who presented a commemorative certificate to Mohammed Ziad, Head of UK & Europe Operations at Malabar Gold & Diamonds.
The India-UK CETA, which came into force on July 15, 2026, is expected to provide duty-free access for nearly 99% of Indian exports to the UK, including gems and jewellery. The agreement is aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and creating new opportunities for Indian businesses in international markets.
For the Indian jewellery sector, the agreement is expected to improve competitiveness by reducing trade barriers and enabling smoother access to one of the world’s major consumer markets.
M.P. Ahammad, Chairman of Malabar Group, said the first shipment represents a proud milestone for both the company and the Indian jewellery industry. He highlighted that the agreement will support the company’s vision of taking Indian craftsmanship to global markets while improving supply chain efficiency and customer value.
Malabar Gold & Diamonds currently operates four showrooms in the UK, including locations in London Green Street, Southall, Leicester and Birmingham. The company is also planning further expansion in the UK market, including new showrooms in Manchester and London.
Mohammed Ziad, Head of UK & Europe Operations, said the India-UK trade agreement will support the company’s long-term growth strategy and strengthen its presence in Europe. The company is also exploring expansion opportunities in markets such as France and Ireland, with the UK serving as a key gateway.
With a global presence of more than 445 showrooms across 14 countries, Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ landmark shipment highlights the growing international reach of Indian jewellery design, craftsmanship and manufacturing capabilities.
