Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan on Tuesday held his first official meeting with Narendra Modi after assuming office earlier this month. The meeting took place in New Delhi and focused on Kerala’s financial situation, infrastructure projects, and Centre-state cooperation.

During the discussions, Satheesan reportedly sought additional financial support for Kerala and requested greater borrowing flexibility linked to National Highway land acquisition expenses borne by the state government.
Officials said the Chief Minister also raised several major development priorities, including infrastructure expansion, pending central assistance, and long-term economic support for Kerala. Satheesan later met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss fiscal and administrative matters affecting the state.
Visuals released from the meeting showed a cordial interaction between the two leaders, with Satheesan presenting traditional Kerala gifts to the Prime Minister.
The meeting marks an important early engagement between the newly formed Congress-led UDF government in Kerala and the Union government following the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections.
