The highest airport in India is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, located in Leh, Ladakh. It sits at an impressive altitude of 3,256 metres (10,682 feet) above sea level, making it not only the highest in India but also one of the highest commercial airports in the world.

This high-altitude airport plays a crucial role in connecting the remote Himalayan region of Ladakh with the rest of the country. Despite its challenging terrain and weather conditions, it serves both civilian and military operations.

Due to the extreme altitude, flight operations here are limited and highly dependent on weather, with most take-offs and landings scheduled during the morning hours when wind conditions are more stable.

The airport is named after Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, a respected Buddhist monk, and remains strategically important for India, given its proximity to sensitive border areas.

Apart from its strategic value, the airport also serves as a major gateway for tourists visiting Ladakh, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan mountains.
