Shubham Vaidkar’s journey from civil engineering graduate to international model is far from ordinary. Swapping a predictable office life for the glamour and uncertainty of fashion, Shubham has made a name for himself on runways from Paris and Milan to other global fashion capitals.
Early Life and Discovery
Born and raised in Mumbai, Shubham completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering while exploring modelling as a hobby during his second year. His career began unexpectedly when he came across an Instagram reel about modelling, which sparked his curiosity. After sending his photos to multiple agencies, he was told he needed to lose weight. With dedication, he met the requirement and was signed by an agency.

Hard Work and Transformation
Shubham’s modelling journey began with AnonModels. Given just a month to lose weight, he changed his diet, cutting out oil, sugar, and junk food. As an ectomorph, he adapted quickly and prepared for his first international assignment. In January 2024, he travelled to Milan for an Armani show, marking his first overseas trip.
From Civil Engineer to Full-Time Model
After initial trips abroad, Shubham returned to India and worked as a civil engineer earning ₹30,000 per month. Six months into the job, he resigned to pursue modelling full-time, choosing the uncertainty and rewards of the fashion world over a steady office career.
Earnings and Opportunities
Shubham now earns lakhs for a single-day shoot. Runway shows in Milan pay around €1,500–2,000, while campaigns can bring in €5,000–6,000 a day. Though agencies take a 30% commission, the remaining 70% provides a significant income boost compared to entry-level engineering salaries. Additional costs and unpredictable schedules make the work demanding, but financially rewarding.
Behind the Glamour
Shubham emphasizes that modelling is not just glitz and glamour. Preparing for shows involves mental and physical discipline, from rigorous workouts to strict dietary control. The uncertainty, last-minute cancellations, and intense competition make the career mentally challenging, despite the visible appeal.
Staying Grounded
Despite his international success, Shubham stays connected to his childhood friends in Mumbai, who often see only the glamorous side of modelling. For him, the journey reflects perseverance, hard work, and dedication behind the camera, balancing the allure of the fashion world with its demanding realities.
