Arijit Singh’s recent announcement regarding his retirement from playback singing may have shocked fans, but the artist’s impact continues through his philanthropic and local ventures. Beyond the recording studio, Arijit has been making a difference in his hometown of Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal, through his restaurant, Heshel.

Unlike typical celebrity-owned dining spots that focus on luxury and high price points, Heshel is built on simplicity and service. Run by Arijit’s father, the establishment is a long-standing family business that recently gained attention for providing wholesome, nutritious meals for as little as Rs 40.
Wholesome Food at Unbeatable Prices
The restaurant serves a diverse menu of Punjabi and Bengali styles, catering to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. A standard veg thali is priced at approximately Rs 40, while students can reportedly avail of a meal for just Rs 30. This initiative specifically aims to support students, daily wagers, labourers, and elderly residents who need reliable access to affordable food.
A Simple, Grounded Ambience
Reflecting Arijit Singh’s own low-profile lifestyle, Heshel eschews flashy decor and extravagant interiors. The space is designed for comfort and functionality, operating more as a community hub than a high-end eatery. It remains open daily from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm.
What’s on the Menu?
Beyond the budget-friendly thalis, the menu features a wide array of authentic dishes:
- Vegetarian: Veg Handi (Rs 170), Navratna Korma (Rs 80), and Shahi Paneer (Rs 190).
- Non-Vegetarian: Chicken Rezala (Rs 180), Chicken Chaap (Rs 200), and Chicken Tikka Masala (Rs 370).
- Specialties: Mutton Biryani (Rs 250) and Heshel Special Chicken Biryani (Rs 200).
Arijit Singh has always been vocal about his love for simple, home-cooked food, once noting that his preferred lunch is “dal and sabzi.” Through Heshel, he seems to be bringing that same love for authentic, uncomplicated flavors to the people of his hometown.
