India Must Build Its Own AI, Says Adani

Gautam Adani urges India’s youth to lead in artificial intelligence, build homegrown AI capabilities, and drive innovation across sectors like agriculture, healthcare, governance, and industry, while highlighting the role of the Adani Group’s Centre of Excellence in Baramati for research, skills development, and industry collaboration.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said India is entering a pivotal phase where technology, talent, and national purpose must advance together, urging young Indians to take the lead in the era of artificial intelligence.

“India’s strength has always been in aligning its people, institutions, and long-term vision. That same clarity must now guide how youth approach AI—not as passive users, but as creators and leaders,” Adani said during the inauguration of Vidya Pratishthan’s Sharad Pawar Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (CoE-AI) in Baramati, Maharashtra.

Addressing concerns about AI, he highlighted historical precedent: every major technological shift, from industrial revolutions to India’s digital transformation, has expanded human potential. “AI will extend this further, putting intelligence and productivity directly in the hands of ordinary citizens and opening opportunities for youth from all backgrounds,” he added.

Adani also stressed that AI leadership cannot be outsourced. “As intelligence increasingly shapes economic power and national influence, relying on foreign algorithms carries risk,” he said. “Data, decision-making, and capability must remain anchored in national interest. Building indigenous AI models, strong computing infrastructure, and resilient intelligence ecosystems is essential for India’s economic security, cultural confidence, and strategic autonomy.”

Placing this vision in context, Adani highlighted the Adani Group’s growing role in the global AI ecosystem. The conglomerate is investing heavily in data centres, digital infrastructure, and clean energy to power large-scale computing, engaging with global tech leaders like Google and Microsoft as India emerges as a hub for AI-driven growth.

The Centre of Excellence, established under the Baramati-based Vidya Pratishthan trust with a Rs 25 crore contribution from Adani in 2023, aims to advance research, skill development, and industry-focused training in emerging technologies.

According to project associates, the CoE-AI will focus on AI applications across agriculture, healthcare, governance, and industry, with strong collaboration between academia and the private sector.gautam-adani-ai-indian-youth-centre-of-excellence
