India’s premier manufacturer of armoured platforms, Armoured Vehicles Nigam (AVANI), is setting its sights on the international market. The company is actively looking for channel partners to help market and export its products globally.
Focus on Key Regions
AVANI is scouting for partners in Africa, West Asia, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia to support the export of its armoured platforms, spare parts, and vehicle maintenance services. This move aligns with the government’s policy of promoting outward-looking growth and expanding India’s defence exports.
Advanced Platforms and Support
The company produces a range of armoured vehicles, including the Arjun Main Battle Tank, the Russian-origin T-90, and armoured personnel carriers like the BMP-2. In addition to vehicles, AVANI offers spares, maintenance support, naval guns, and Kavach protection systems for warships. The company can also assist nations that operate Russian-origin equipment.
Growth from Ordnance Factory Board Legacy
AVANI is one of seven entities carved out of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board, all of which have increased focus on exports. While combined exports of these entities were only ₹81 crore in 2019-20, provisional figures for 2024-25 show exports have soared past ₹3,545 crore. The surge has been driven by strong international demand for ammunition and explosives, along with proactive efforts to engage foreign customers. Munitions India Limited leads these exports, accounting for nearly ₹3,000 crore in the past financial year.
