Sunny Varkey, the billionaire behind one of the world’s largest private education groups, shared insights about his path to success, stressing the role of determination, discipline, and relentless passion in shaping his journey.

Balancing Success and Life
When asked about the possibility of combining professional success with a balanced personal life, Varkey admitted that the two rarely go hand in hand. He argued that working a standard eight-hour day would not have taken him where he is today.

The Demands of Success
Varkey revealed that he has lived by an almost nonstop work routine. “I worked almost 24/7. Today, I work 24/7, literally. And the team works with me on the same level and same pace,” he said. While he acknowledged that work-life balance is desirable, he described it as “very difficult” in reality. For him, success requires constant hard work in a world where “nobody gives you a free hand.”

Backlash on Social Media
His comments quickly drew mixed reactions online. Some praised his honesty about the sacrifices behind wealth and influence, while others criticized him for glorifying an unhealthy hustle culture. One user described his stance as “modern day slavery,” warning that it ignores mental well-being.

Others argued that Varkey’s success was not solely self-made, pointing to his family’s ownership of Our Own English High School in the UAE and early connections with influential circles. “Hard work is one thing, but let’s be real, the path was cleared for you long before you took a single step,” another user wrote. The Bigger Question
The debate reflects a larger question: should nonstop hustle still be the standard for success, or should modern leadership also prioritize balance and well-being? Varkey’s remarks have put this long-running discussion back in the spotlight.
