Affordable Electric Car in the Pipeline
JSW Group is preparing to launch a new electric car priced between ₹10–12 lakh, aiming to enter India’s mass EV market. Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, confirmed that the vehicle will be smaller than the current Windsor model and is being designed to meet the growing demand for affordable EVs.

Expansion in Passenger and Commercial Vehicle Segments
Alongside the compact EV, JSW will also launch a larger SUV available in three drivetrains — electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine (ICE). Additionally, the group is developing a commercial vehicle line through a technology partnership with another global OEM. The first commercial vehicle is expected to roll out by mid-2026, though it won’t carry the JSW branding.
Partnership with MG and Future Investments
JSW currently partners with MG Motor India through a joint venture with China’s SAIC. Jindal indicated plans to increase JSW’s equity stake in this venture, as SAIC reduces its India focus in favour of European and Chinese markets. JSW wants to strengthen its position in India with greater investments and brand presence.
Technology Sourcing and Launch Timeline
For the upcoming JSW-badged passenger cars, the company has secured a technology deal with a Chinese OEM. While the partner’s identity remains undisclosed, the launch of the new car is targeted for the first half of 2027.
Manufacturing Facility and Battery Plans
JSW is setting up its vehicle production plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This facility will produce both the commercial and passenger vehicles. The group is also exploring battery manufacturing seriously, including acquiring the necessary technologies for in-house production.
Investment Commitment and Localisation Targets
The entire automotive project will involve an investment of ₹10,000 crore, made through a JSW promoter entity. Localisation efforts are being ramped up — from 27% at the time of the Windsor launch, JSW expects to achieve 67% localisation by the end of 2025 and 85% by mid-2026. Except for battery cells and motors, most components will be sourced locally.
EV Volumes and Market Strategy
Over 80% of JSW MG Motor’s current vehicle sales are electric. Jindal expressed confidence that the company is on the verge of becoming India’s leading EV player. With the Windsor model priced between ₹13–18 lakh, the group is targeting a broader audience by developing products in the ₹10–15 lakh range — which Jindal believes is the true mass-market “sweet spot.”
Addressing Range Anxiety and Charging Infrastructure
The Windsor’s 53 kWh battery provides over 400 km of range, while the 38 kWh variant offers 330 km. According to Jindal, with increasing efficiency and better public charging networks, consumer concerns around EV range are gradually diminishing.
