Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming magnum opus Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and expensive Indian films ever made. Crafted for immersive formats like IMAX, the two-part epic reimagines the age-old story of love, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil. The first look video, spanning over three minutes, is rich in visual effects and grandeur, giving audiences a glimpse of what promises to be a spectacular cinematic journey.
Star Cast and Roles
Ranbir Kapoor leads the cast as Lord Rama, portraying one of Indian mythology’s most revered figures. Sai Pallavi takes on the role of Goddess Sita, while KGF star Yash will be seen as Raavan. Sunny Deol joins the ensemble as Lord Hanuman. Interestingly, reports indicate that Ranbir and Yash may not share much screen time despite being central characters.

Massive Salaries for Lead Actors
According to multiple media reports:
- Ranbir Kapoor is reportedly charging ₹75 crore per part, bringing his total remuneration to ₹150 crore for both instalments.
- Sai Pallavi is said to be receiving ₹6 crore per part, significantly higher than her usual fees, amounting to ₹12 crore in total.
- Yash, who is also co-producing the film under his banner Monster Mind Creations, is being paid ₹50 crore per part.
- Sunny Deol will reportedly earn ₹20 crore per part for his portrayal of Lord Hanuman.
Top Hollywood Talent Behind the Scenes
The project also brings together an international team to handle action and design. Hollywood stunt experts Terry Notary (known for Avengers and Planet of the Apes) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road) are choreographing the battles. Renowned production designers Ravi Bansal (Dune 2, Aladdin) and Ramsey Avery (Captain America, Tomorrowland) are leading the visual design, ensuring the film captures the mythical essence of ancient India on an epic scale.
Production and Release Schedule
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios along with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana Part 1 is scheduled for release on Diwali 2026, followed by Part 2 on Diwali 2027.
India’s Costliest Film Yet?
Reports vary on the total budget. Some sources peg the cost at ₹835 crore, while others estimate a staggering ₹1600 crore. If the latter figure holds, it would make Ramayana the most expensive Indian film ever made—₹900 crore reportedly allocated for Part 1 and ₹700 crore for Part 2.
With global-level production, a powerful cast, and an iconic story at its heart, Ramayana aims to set a new benchmark in Indian cinema.
