Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU), India’s first national-level cooperative university, in Anand, Gujarat, on July 5, 2025. The event will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Union Ministers of State Krishan Pal Gurjar and Muralidhar Mohol, and Cooperation Secretary Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani.

Focused on Cooperative Sector Skill Development
The university aims to meet the growing need for trained professionals in India’s cooperative sector. It will offer specialised academic programmes in cooperative management, finance, law, and rural development. Courses will range from PhD degrees to diplomas and certificates for different levels of cooperative functioning.
Training Target of 20 Lakh Personnel
Officials plan to train around 20 lakh individuals from various cooperative organisations over five years. This includes members of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy cooperatives, and fisheries, with a focus on upskilling through structured education and practical learning.
Strengthening the Cooperative Ecosystem
The government views the university as a key initiative to strengthen India’s cooperative movement by improving access to formal education and skill development. It is expected to support the operational efficiency of cooperatives across the country.
Additional Events During Shah’s Visit
As part of his visit, Amit Shah will also participate in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree plantation campaign. He will unveil an NCERT-developed school module introducing students to the principles and history of India’s cooperative movement.
