Amid rising tensions in West Asia and growing concerns over global fuel supplies, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is set to visit Qatar on an official trip between April 9 and 10.

Qatar has long been one of India’s key suppliers of natural gas. However, recent geopolitical tensions have disrupted parts of the energy supply chain, raising concerns in global markets.
Disruptions in Natural Gas Supply
Reports indicate that Iran recently targeted facilities linked to QatarEnergy, one of the world’s major natural gas producers. Earlier in March, operations were also affected due to a force majeure declaration, which led to a temporary halt in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.
These developments have added pressure on global energy security, particularly for countries dependent on imported gas.
India’s Energy Engagement with Qatar
India continues to maintain strong energy ties with Qatar, which plays a significant role in meeting its natural gas requirements. The upcoming visit is expected to further strengthen cooperation and ensure stable supplies amid ongoing global uncertainties.
India’s Energy Supplies to Bangladesh
Earlier this week, Puri also met Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister to discuss energy cooperation. According to the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, India has been supplying energy products to Bangladesh since 2007 through various channels.
The spokesperson also noted that India continues to provide energy support in recent weeks while ensuring its own domestic energy needs remain protected.
