Festive demand has triggered a large-scale movement of fresh produce from Kerala to the Gulf, with over 3,000 tonnes of fruits, vegetables, and traditional essentials being flown in ahead of Vishu celebrations.

Retail giant Lulu Group International has transported around 3,153 tonnes of goods to the UAE and other GCC countries to ensure smooth supply during the festive season for the Malayali community.
Air Network Keeps Festive Supplies Flowing
Key Vishu items such as kani konna flowers, jackfruit, banana leaves, and coconuts are among the shipments. These are essential for traditional Vishukkani rituals and Sadya meals.
A recent consignment of nearly 100 tonnes reached Abu Dhabi on a Boeing 747 operated by National Airlines, with additional flights planned in the coming days to meet rising demand.
Direct Farm Sourcing Supports Faster Supply
Most of the produce is sourced directly from farmers in Kerala through Lulu’s Fair Exports Division. This helps speed up the supply chain while also supporting local agricultural exports.
The system ensures that fresh goods move quickly from farms to supermarket shelves across Gulf countries.
Stores Prepare for Festival Demand
Lulu outlets across the region have set up dedicated Vishu sections featuring traditional items and curated festive products. Customer footfall has increased as people prepare for celebrations.
The company has also introduced a Payasam Festival featuring over 20 varieties of the dessert, along with pre-order options for Vishu Sadya meals offering more than 20 dishes.
Focus on Supply Stability and Pricing
Yusuffali M.A., Chairman of Lulu Group, has assured customers of steady supply and stable prices throughout the festive period, despite the large-scale logistics involved in moving perishable goods across countries.
