India’s first semi-high-speed train has marked a decade of service. It was inaugurated on April 5, 2016, by then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) station. The train is operated and maintained by the Northern Railway (NR) zone.
Gatimaan Express: Name, Route, Speed
The train, known as the Gatimaan Express, initially ran between Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) and Agra Cantt. From April 1, 2018, its route was extended to the Bundelkhand region, reaching Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Junction. This extension has improved connectivity for tourists visiting Gwalior, Jhansi, and nearby attractions. The train can reach speeds of up to 160 kmph.

Stops, Train Numbers, and Schedule
On its journey from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, the Gatimaan Express halts at Agra Cantt and Gwalior. It operates six days a week, excluding Fridays, under train numbers 12050/12049.
Coach Details, Features, and Fare
The train is powered by a 5,500 HP electric locomotive and includes two Executive AC Chair Car coaches and eight AC Chair Car coaches. All coaches are equipped with bio-toilets and were built by the Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala. They feature balanced draft gear couplers for a smoother ride, a refreshed exterior colour scheme, and marathon Shine flooring for a bright, polished finish.
Ticket prices are Rs 1,140 for the standard AC Chair Car and Rs 2,300 for the Executive AC Chair Car between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi.
