India’s average monthly mobile data consumption per user has crossed the 31 GB mark, highlighting the country’s rapidly growing digital usage.

According to the latest Nokia Mobile Broadband Index (MBiT) report, 5G data traffic in India surged by over 70% year-on-year, driven by expanding network coverage and rising adoption of 5G-enabled devices.
5G now contributes nearly 47% of the country’s total mobile broadband traffic, indicating that it is fast becoming the dominant technology for data consumption.
The surge is being powered by increasing demand for data-heavy applications such as 4K video streaming, cloud gaming, and AI-driven services.
Overall mobile data traffic in India has crossed 27 exabytes per month, with 5G alone accounting for a significant share of this usage.
India has also emerged as one of the global leaders in 5G adoption, with the second-largest 5G subscriber base and data consumption levels worldwide. With rapid expansion and affordability of 5G smartphones, India’s data consumption is expected to grow further, with projections suggesting over 1 billion 5G users by 2031.
