Adani Defence & Aerospace, part of Adani Enterprises Ltd, has supplied 2,000 indigenously produced Prahar 7.62 mm Light Machine Guns to the Indian Army, marking a major step forward in India’s domestic small arms manufacturing capabilities.
Faster-Than-Scheduled Delivery
The first batch of these weapons was delivered in just seven months, significantly ahead of the agreed timeline. The First-of-Production Model was completed within six months, much earlier than the planned 18 months, followed by Bulk Production Clearance that enabled full-scale manufacturing.

Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Gwalior
The weapons are produced at Adani Defence’s small arms facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India’s first fully integrated private-sector hub for small arms manufacturing. Spread across 100 acres, the facility includes advanced technologies such as CNC machining, robotics, metallurgy labs, precision testing systems, and an underground firing range.
Boost to Self-Reliance in Defence
The Prahar LMG reduces dependence on imported infantry weapons and strengthens India’s push for defence self-reliance. Each unit undergoes rigorous testing, including lifecycle, ballistic, and environmental trials, to meet the operational standards of the armed forces.
Production Capacity and Industry Impact
The Gwalior facility can produce up to 100,000 weapons annually, with over 90 percent of components sourced domestically. It also supports local industries by generating skilled jobs and strengthening MSMEs within the supply chain.
Integrated Weapons and Ammunition Ecosystem
Adani Defence’s capabilities are further supported by its ammunition complex in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which can produce around 300 million rounds annually. Plans are underway to expand into larger calibers, creating a more integrated defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Future Expansion Plans
Looking ahead, the Gwalior facility is preparing to manufacture close-quarter battle weapons, further enhancing India’s indigenous defence production capabilities.
