China and India have made remarkable progress in recent decades through their own hard work and determination, rather than relying on the generosity of other nations, said Chinese ambassador Xu Feihong. His remarks came as a response to comments by US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who described past US economic support to China as a “mistake” that Washington would avoid repeating with India, according to PTI on 27 March.

Speaking at the 14th China-India Youth Dialogue, Xu noted that some parties do not want China and India to live in harmony, exaggerating differences and promoting the so-called “China threat” to benefit from discord. He emphasized that both countries should pursue development independently while fostering mutually beneficial cooperation. Highlighting the progress since meetings between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said relations have moved to a higher level, with growing exchanges across multiple sectors. Xu urged young people to think independently, step out of the “information cocoon,” and for both nations to strengthen communication, coordinate on global issues, and safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries as leaders of the Global South.
