M. A. Yusuff Ali, chairman of LuLu Group International, met Narendra Modi in New Delhi to brief him on steps taken to ensure uninterrupted food supplies to Gulf Cooperation Council countries amid ongoing global challenges. The discussion focused on maintaining the steady availability of essential food items across the region, which relies heavily on Indian-origin products and is home to a large Indian diaspora, while also addressing supply chain stability and price control.

India-GCC Food Supply Continuity

LuLu Group, which operates over 280 hypermarkets across the GCC, remains central to food distribution in the region. Yusuff Ali outlined the group’s large-scale supply operations, which have already moved around 15,000 tonnes of perishable and non-perishable food items from India through a mix of chartered flights, cargo vessels, and regular shipping services. So far, 34 dedicated chartered flights have been deployed, with more planned in the coming days as part of expanded operations. These efforts are supported by sourcing and logistics networks across multiple Indian states working at higher capacity to meet rising demand. The initiatives are part of wider efforts by businesses and governments to prevent supply disruptions and avoid panic buying. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the importance of these measures and assured full government support to ensure smooth exports to GCC nations, reinforcing India’s position as a reliable partner in global food security.
