The Indian government has firmly rejected widespread speculation about a potential nationwide lockdown, clarifying that there are no plans to restrict public movement or economic activity even amid global energy concerns triggered by tensions in West Asia.

Officials said recent remarks by Narendra Modi about “preparedness” were taken out of context and were meant to emphasise administrative readiness and contingency planning, not lockdown measures.
The rumours coincided with the anniversary of India’s 2020 COVID‑19 lockdown, which amplified fears online, but the government stressed that the current situation is not a public health emergency and that normal life will continue.
Officials reiterated that authorities remain focused on managing supply chains, economic stability, and energy security without imposing movement restrictions.
The clarification comes as India navigates global market uncertainty and ensures preparedness without curbs on daily activities.
