The Kerala government has taken a major step toward expanding the industrial ecosystem around the Vizhinjam International Seaport by approving the acquisition of 230 acres of land for ancillary development linked to the port project.

The decision, cleared by the state cabinet, aims to support port-led industrialisation and create infrastructure that will strengthen economic activity around the upcoming transshipment hub near Thiruvananthapuram.
Land to Be Acquired From Three Areas
According to the cabinet decision, the land will be acquired from the areas of Kottukal, Maranalloor and Amaravila in Thiruvananthapuram district.
The acquisition will be carried out under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The total estimated cost of acquiring the land is around ₹810 crore.
Officials said the identified land will be used for building infrastructure and facilities that support port operations and related industries.
Boost for Port-Led Industrial Development
The newly acquired land is expected to enable the development of logistics hubs, industrial units and other support facilities that complement the operations of the Vizhinjam port.
Authorities believe the move will help create a stronger industrial and logistics network around the port, encouraging investment and generating employment opportunities in the region.
Funding Plan for the Acquisition
The cabinet has also approved the financial structure for the land purchase.
Out of the total ₹810 crore required, about ₹283.68 crore will be sourced from the Plan Scheme Treasury Saving Bank Account of Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited. The remaining funds will be drawn from an already sanctioned loan provided by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.
VISL to Lead Industrial Development Activities
Along with the acquisition approval, the government has authorised Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited to carry out all activities related to port-led industrial development on the 230-acre land parcel once the acquisition process is completed.
Officials say the initiative will help accelerate the development of an integrated industrial ecosystem around the Vizhinjam port and enhance its role as a key maritime gateway in the region.
