Indian Railways has long provided free bedding—pillows, sheets, and blankets—only in AC classes, with passengers asked to leave linens behind after the journey. Traditionally, these sheets have been plain white, giving coaches a stark and clinical look. But that’s changing.

New Bedding on Vande Bharat Sleeper Express
On February 27, Instagram user Oindrila Datta shared a video highlighting the new colourful bedding on the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. Passengers in her coach received sheets featuring aesthetic block-print designs, a major departure from the plain white linens of the past.
Oindrila captioned her Reel: “POV: Indian Railways said, ‘No more MORGUE aesthetics in 3 AC’.” She added, “Indian railway just changed the colour white…and it suddenly does not feel like a morgue any more…”
The clip shows passengers using the vibrant sheets while resting on their berths, giving the coach a much warmer and more inviting feel.
Mixed Reactions Online
The internet reacted positively, with many praising the change. One Instagram user commented, “This looks so much warmer and cosier,” while another said, “This is so nice.”
However, some users urged caution, highlighting passenger behavior and civic sense. Comments included warnings not to steal or damage the provided linens, as railway staff often cover losses from their own pockets. Another user reminded viewers that the change is currently limited to Vande Bharat Sleeper Express trains, not all 3AC coaches.
Focus on Hygiene and Comfort
This move follows other improvements on the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. Videos showcasing IRCTC’s hygienic meal services have gone viral, showing staff serving meals while wearing gloves, hairnets, and masks, reflecting a broader focus on passenger comfort and cleanliness.
The colourful bedding and high hygiene standards are part of Indian Railways’ efforts to modernize travel experience on premium trains, making journeys more comfortable, inviting, and safe for passengers.
