Adani Power has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to supply 1,600 MW from one of its upcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power projects, the company announced on Sunday.

The award comes after a competitive bidding process in which Adani Power emerged as the lowest-tariff bidder, offering power at a combined tariff of ₹5.30 per kWh. The 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) is expected to begin in the financial year 2030-31.

Commitment to Long-Term Energy Security

S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, said the LoA reflects the company’s cost competitiveness and its commitment to supporting Maharashtra’s and India’s growing electricity demand. “With power demand continuing to rise, long-term and reliable capacity addition is critical to ensure energy security,” he added.

Currently, Adani Power has tied up long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW of its 23.8 GW under-development pipeline, while over 95% of its existing 18.15 GW operating capacity is secured under medium- to long-term agreements. More than 55% of upcoming capacity is already covered under 25-year PSAs, giving the company strong visibility and revenue stability.

Fuel Security and Reliable Supply

The MSEDCL contract includes a pre-determined coal linkage, ensuring fuel security and enabling cost-effective, reliable electricity delivery.

Adani Power is executing India’s largest private-sector thermal power expansion, aiming to increase capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY31-32. The total investment is estimated at around ₹2 lakh crore, with projects expected to create thousands of jobs and stimulate industrial activity, supporting India’s rising electricity needs due to urbanisation, industrial growth, and greater household electrification.

Multi-State Expansion and Long-Term Contracts

The company has been actively expanding its presence across India, securing long-term supply contracts in multiple states to meet growing base-load demand.

Recent milestones include:

  • Maharashtra (Sept 2024): Composite 6,600 MW order, including 5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal
  • Uttar Pradesh (May 2025): 1,600 MW LoA
  • Bihar (Aug 2025): 2,400 MW LoA
  • Madhya Pradesh (recent): Initial 800 MW award increased to 1,600 MW

These contracts demonstrate strong confidence in Adani Power’s ability to deliver reliable, long-term power supply.

Scaling Up to Meet India’s Growing Demand

With 12 thermal plants currently operating, Adani Power’s expansion strategy is designed to secure long-term electricity availability while supporting the country’s industrial growth and urbanisation. The planned increase to 41.87 GW by FY31-32 positions the company as a key player in India’s energy sector.
