The Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), one of India’s largest cooperative infrastructure organisations, has successfully completed three major projects worth a total of Rs 4.53 billion, showcasing its expertise in coastal protection, complex bridge construction, and climate-resilient roads.
One project created a 7.31-km coastal protection system to prevent shoreline erosion and sea intrusion. It involved placing roughly 1,25,000 tetrapods, 8,50,000 tonnes of granite armour units, and constructing groynes to stabilise sediment movement along the coast. This project earned the Outstanding Infrastructure Project 2023 award from the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Kochi Chapter.

ULCCS also delivered South India’s longest over-backwater road bridge, stretching 1,755 metres and largely built over water using specialised marine construction techniques. The bridge incorporates 55-metre bow-string arch spans and multiple long spans to allow inland waterway navigation while enhancing connectivity for island communities.
The third project is a semi-elevated highway corridor designed to stay operational during seasonal floods. Elevating critical sections above flood levels ensures continuous connectivity and supports economic activity in flood-prone areas.
With over 100 years of experience and more than 7,500 projects completed, ULCCS continues to strengthen its position as a multi-sector infrastructure provider across transportation, coastal engineering, and urban development in India.
