Uber has entered the intercity bus ticketing segment, allowing users in India to book long-distance bus journeys directly through its app. The company said India will be the first market globally to roll out the service, marking a new step in expanding its mobility offerings.

For the launch, Uber has partnered with AbhiBus, the bus ticketing platform owned by Ixigo. Through this collaboration, users can search, compare and book intercity bus tickets while continuing to use Uber’s existing ride-hailing platform.
The move expands Uber’s intercity travel ecosystem, which already includes ride-hailing options for longer trips. With the new feature, passengers will be able to plan and book bus journeys while enjoying the same app interface and payment options they use for Uber rides.
According to Uber executives, India has become a key innovation hub for the company, with local teams building products that may later expand globally. The intercity bus ticketing service reflects this strategy, as features developed in India could shape Uber’s future mobility offerings worldwide. The company is also offering introductory discounts for first-time users of the bus booking service, aiming to attract riders who frequently travel between cities. The launch strengthens Uber’s push to become a multi-modal travel platform rather than just a ride-hailing app.
